Windows operating system comes with the Windows media player by default. It's interface is nice but does this app supports various audio and video file formats? Actually I have to put a big question mark. The popular video file format is MPEG-4 which is shortly called as MP4. You know this file format is not supported by the windows media player.
You will need to install an MPEG-4 decoder in order to play it. But here is the Master VLC player which can plays so many formats. It's interface is fairly good and simple.
If you are a theme lover, then VLC's developer site provides you abundant skins for free.

VLC comes with rich in options for both beginners and advanced users. It allows you to change the visual appearance according to your desire. Regarding the currently opened files, it gives you the required information.

The equalizer option in VLC is excellent and provides users with 12 band audio equalizer. Also you are allowed to tune into maximum volume in which this facility is not available in Windows media player you can choose between rop, color fun, image modification, AtmoLight, logo or more advanced filter controls. In addition, you will be given the ability to perform synchronizations of audio/subtitles and video streams.

Overall, VLC is an outstanding must app for your Windows PC and it is purely better than the default Windows media player.
